A Drug Used For ADHD - Is it As Good As We Are Led to Believe?

side effects

This article, as you can guess by the title itself, is about a new drug called Tenex used for ADHD treatment. Now, some of you might have a doubt - 'why should we discuss this drug in particular when there are so many drugs used for ADHD treatment today?' That, I think, is a good question. Let me tell you why.

The connection between Tenex and ADHD is very simple, basic, and obvious - it is a drug used to treat the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. But what makes Tenex stand out from most other conventional ADHD medications is that it is not a stimulant drug. Let me first explain what a stimulant drug is and what it does to a human body.

A stimulant drug, as the name suggests, is a drug that increases alertness and awareness temporarily in a human body by increasing the activity of the central nervous system. Psychostimulant drugs are usually given to children suffering from attention deficit disorder to increase their alertness. The problem with these drugs, however, is that they cause a lot of side effects. The most common side effects include insomnia and anorexia and, in rare cases, psychosis and acute depression. The same drugs, when given to children with heart problems or to children whose families have a history of heart problems, can cause heart attacks and cardiovascular problems. In other words, psychostimulant drugs are not as good an option to treat ADHD as most people think.

Tenex used for ADHD treatment differs from these psychostimulant drugs in a major way - it is a non-stimulant drug. This is the reason why a lot of people seem to think that it is a better alternative to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is actually used to treat high blood pressure, but due to its ability to act on the prefrontal cortex and lessen the impact of the incoming stimuli, it is being used in the treatment of ADHD too. What it does basically by lessening the impact of the incoming stimuli is that it helps the patient focus better. So, a lot of people think this is a good alternative to those harmful psychostimulant drugs. But, unfortunately, this is where they are wrong.

Tenex and ADHD do not go well together as many people think. While it is a non-stimulant drug, it does have its own side effects. The common side effects of Tenex include loss of appetite, dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, diarrhea, and nasal congestion. So, by treating your kid with this drug, what you are essentially doing is that you are replacing one set of side effects with another set of equally harmful side effects. So, contrary to what most people think, Tenex is not the right choice to treat ADHD.

The best treatment for ADHD, as far as I am concerned, is homeopathy. I have just two reasons - it is more effective than psychostimulant drugs and it is much safer than those drugs as well. Homeopathic medications, even when taken regularly, even if taken along with other medications, do not cause any side effects whatsoever. The same cannot be said about Tenex used for ADHD treatment and it definitely cannot be said about the psychostimulant drugs that we see in the market today. So, what does this tell you?

You have three choices now:

a) You have psychostimulant drugs which can cause dangerous side effects

b) You have Tenex which is not a stimulant but has its own side effects and

c) You have homeopathic medications that are both effective and safe.

If I were you, I would stop thinking about Tenex and ADHD for a moment and would choose homeopathic medications to treat my kid. After all, I would want nothing but the best for my child. What about you?
