A Drug Treatment Center Specialized For Women

It is not surprising that there should be women addicts. What is surprising is that there are not more of them given the extremes of pressures they are going through in a male oriented society. A home maker would be under pressure from husband, children and other responsibilities that ask her to do too much in too little time. And when she does get to relax, she may experiment with alcohol or some other drug. A woman may be harassed at home or at work. In society she may have to face difficult to handle situations because of some reason or the other. Or she may be the victim of molestation. She may be afraid of pregnancy or the unknown factors that come with being a mother. Or she may be single or divorced or lonely or aged...Any reason is good enough to start substance abuse. What is deplorable is that from occasional use to regular sustained over usage is just a matter of time and what we have on our hands is a female addict.

It is not surprising to find that at these centers the staff will entirely consist of women. Women addicts are more responsive and trusting of other women and if the staff is made up of women the treatment becomes so much easier.

Women addicts, especially pregnant ones need to be cared for with sensitivity and understanding. Also the doctor will understand that women addicts will need special medical treatment. Counselors (lady counselors) can understand what the other woman has been through and offering genuine sympathy and support will touch the addict to her heart.

Group therapy, conducted for women by women will naturally be a session where women are open and pour out their grief, sorrows and troubles and also get sympathy from other inmates who may have been through a similar experience. Friendships made here are carried on in the outside world too and they mutually support each other through life's vagaries.

There are instances where single mothers have to be taken in for treatment. In such cases there are facilities to permit her children to stay along with her in this safe and secure environment of the drug treatment center. Families of women also find it comforting to have their loved one being treated in an all woman environment.

For those women who have no one to support them these centers also have programs in place which give them vocational training so that they become immediately productive once they leave the rehab. Some drug treatment centers also offer placement services as they have links in the job market and some employers specifically depend on these centers for their workers.

In each other's company these dejected and forlorn women once again bloom and are ready to flourish in life again. A women's drug treatment center is what has brought about this flowering in these women addicts.
